I tried the mod described in the above link just yesterday evening.
My mixer is outside the receiver(s) with a 9V battery, so I just
soldered the pickup point as indicated. A Cinch connector allows
me to change receiver.

Initially I got lower SNR with this receiver, as well as with the ICF2001D Sony.

Receivers seem sensitive to the noise caused by my computer supply/charger.

One improvement was obtained by using an EXTERNAL ANTENNA
(2x 7m dipole) with a COAXIAL CABLE feeding the receiver
(I made a jack asapter).  This is extremely important to minimize noise
from other equipment in the room.

One improvement on 21/Feb was  obtained by inserting an insulation  transformer
between Receiver and Mixer.  Cannot specify what it is exactly, I used
a network line transformer used in some computers.
